Matthias Hauswirth Click to see Switzerland (couldn't resist ;-)

Until recently I was a PhD student at the Computer Science Department of the University of Colorado at Boulder with professor Amer Diwan. I successfully defended my dissertation on April 27, 2005 and will officially graduate in August 2005. I will join the Faculty of Informatics at the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) as an Assistant Professor in September 2005.

Research

I am interested in approaches for understanding the performance of modern, complex systems. The performance of such systems depends on intricate interactions between the different layers (hardware, operating system, virtual machine, application server, and application). My approach, Vertical Profiling, analyzes the behavior of such systems across all layers to identify causes of performance problems. I have developed a performance visualization and analysis tool, Performance Explorer, supporting this approach. See my publications to learn more.

About me

Before coming to Boulder I have studied, worked, and lectured at the School of Engineering and Information Technology (HTI) of the Bern University of Applied Sciences in Biel, Switzerland. Here is my home page at HTI Biel.

During my graduate education in Boulder, I have taken the following courses.

Here's some personal information about me (or, as I've been told, not really about me, but about my environment).
