The Gang

gang1 A group of criminals or hoodlums who band together for mutual protection and profit.
gang2 A group of people who associate regularly on a social basis. (I like this one better)

DISCLAIMER: The contents of this page might be neither true nor wrong, nor exhaustive nor anything else. (just want to make sure I don't get sued;)

Maca

Maca could be considered the founder of the gang, she got some of us together for our first bike ride. She's Chilenian/English, skis like a pro, and I think she won this year's Bolder Boulder.

Masha

Masha had the great idea of transporting our BBQ stuff up Flagstaff mountain in her SUV. I guess she's more American than Ukrainian (not only because of the SUV;). To become even more cosmopolitan, she'll study in Germany for a while.

Petra

Petra organized most of our events, she probably got these skills as an RA. She likes Czech food, but not at Marie's ;) I'm not sure anymore. Maybe it was Petra who won the Boulder Bolder. This fall we'll have to extend our activities to the Czech Republic, since she'll have to go back home pretty soon.

Lori

Lori organized the first river rafting trip. She's working for housing at CU. And I guess somehow she's Petra's boss' boss' boss (they seem to have quite a deep hierarchy in US educational institutions). And, she's doing that Triathlon (that's why we had to bike that far north, last time).

Zanna

Zanna just moved in to a new house. She's currently pretty busy setting everything up. The only problem with Suzanna is that she's kind of unreachable by email. This is pretty uncommon for an American ;)

Brian

Brian is from Texas. And also from the United States ;-) He's a friend of Petra, and happens to study CS. But for some strange reason I don't understand, he wants to do a PhD in Aerospace Engineering. After having gone through Petra's "Colorado in seven days" program (biking, rafting, rock climbing, hiking, I wonder why there was no skiing :), he concluded that studying at CU Boulder might be a pretty good idea.

Guenter

Guenter is probably the busiest individual on the planet. But somehow he still manages to join us for a ride after three days without sleep. If you ever get a chance, you have to taste his potato pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer).

GW

GW, Lori's husband, works as an NT sysadmin. He and Lori think about living and working in Europe for a while. [If somebody wants to offer him a job in Europe, contact me] GW has been in Europe, he was even exposed to our food: he ate at a Burger King near Ramstein ;)

Jochen

Jochen, my housemate, is considered an almost-Swiss by some Germans, he is from Konstanz. Studying physics, he is the one with the compass and alti-, odo-, speedometers. And he seems to like fixing his flat tires (he does that almost every week ;-)

Leo

Leo's the tall guy with the Brazilian accent. There's a problem with Leo, he can always claim the "shotgun" (front passenger seat) due to his size. And, BTW, he bought some truck tubes (we certainly will use them to raft down Boulder Creek).

Matthias

Twelve years ago I had to write an essay titled "me in ten years". I predicted that I would be a millionaire somewhere in Silicon Valley. As it turned out I'm neither a millionaire nor in the Valley. But being a poor student in Colorado isn't that bad either, as you can see on these pages ;-)
