Announcing a special travel opportunity to SIGPLAN PLDI 2009

Travel support for students presenting a poster or paper at the SIGPLAN Programming Language Design and Implementation Conference (PLDI 2009) have traditionally been available through the SIGPLAN Professional Activities Committee (PAC).  This year, through a grant from the National Science Foundation, we are proud to announce the availability of a limited number of travel awards for students who not presenting but only attending the conference. 

If you are a student interested in learning more about state of the art research in programming language design and implementation, please consider applying for a PLDI 2009 travel award.   The awards will be distributed through the SIGPLAN professional activities committee (PAC) awards system. The application form can be found at http://www.sigplan.org/PAC.htm.  Note that the forms were originally designed for students presenting papers.  Where they ask Title of paper / Names of Authors, just indicate "Not applicable".

To apply, you will be asked to provide:

• A description of why you want to attend the meeting, and background describing yourself and your personal goals.
• A budget that includes details of other possible sources of funding you may have (e.g., from an advisor, institution, etc.) .
• An endorsement from your employer or institution (e.g., supervisor or department chair) that confirms your budget and states why SIGPLAN PAC should support you.
• Travel support includes funding for the following activities:
  • A one-year SIGPLAN membership for ACM students that are currently not SIGPLAN members.
  • Registration fees and shared accommodation expenses (where possible). Whenever possible, PAC expects institutions to share costs in the funding of students.
  • Any other activity deemed appropriate by the committee.
